The Venetian coast: a journey through history and natural beauty

Story

Discover the Litoranea Veneta, an ancient canal that connects the Po Delta with the Gulf of Trieste and is rich in cultural and natural attractions.

A trip on the Litoranea Veneta is like travelling back in time, through centuries of history and natural beauty. This ancient artificial canal, which connects the Po Delta with the Gulf of Trieste, was recently reopened after decades of neglect thanks to a careful restoration of the locks.

Today, as a hundred years ago, it is possible to navigate these waters and discover enchanting places.

A dive into the past: the Roman harbour of Concordia Sagittaria

Imagine you are a traveller from ancient Rome and you are walking into the Roman port of Concordia Sagittaria. This city was founded between 42 and 40 BC and was a strategic point for legionaries, merchants and messengers. The regular streets, the mighty walls and the seven city gates bear witness to a glorious and eventful past.

Today, many traces of this period can still be seen in Concordia Sagittaria. The Roman bridge in Via San Pietro and the Roman baths in Via 1° Maggio are just some of the archaeological treasures you can admire. The Cathedral of San Stefano with its frescoed baptistery is another jewel not to be missed. As you stroll through these streets, you will feel the weight of history under your feet and imagine life in the past.

The Casoni di Valle di Canna in Caorle

On the onward journey, you will reach the Casoni di Valle di Canna in Caorle. These typical reed buildings used by local fishermen are a symbol of local tradition and culture. The casoni represent an authentic link to the past and provide an insight into the simple, hard-working life of fishermen in the past. We have spoken here about Caorle, this little hidden gem in Veneto, and tell you in detail about its incredible beauty and the many possibilities it offers!

The city of the sun: Grado

Grado, the "City of the Sun", is one of the pearls of Friuli Venezia Giulia, characterised by its thousand-year-old history and its unique cultural and natural heritage. It is located in a privileged position between the lagoon of Grado lagoon Situated between the Grado lagoon and the Adriatic Sea, this seaside resort offers a perfect combination of relaxation, culture and scenic beauty.

The origins of Grado date back to Roman times, when it served as a trading harbour for nearby Aquileia. The historic centre of Grado is a true architectural gem. On a stroll through the calli, you can admire the typical, colourful fishermen's houses and numerous historical remains. Among the most important sights are the Basilica of Sant'Eufemia, an example of early Christian architecture with a marvellous floor mosaic, and the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the oldest church in Grado, which also features mosaics and Roman structures.

The island of Barbana, which is home to an impressive Marian sanctuary founded in 582 AD, deserves a special mention. Every first Sunday in July, the traditional festival of the "Perdòn di Barbana" takes place here, a procession of boats decorated with flowers that renew the ancient vow to the Virgin Mary, a unique and spiritually charged spectacle.

Jesolo nightlife

Jesolo with its sparkling nightlife is the ideal place to end a day of exploring. Bars, restaurants and discos enliven the nights here and offer fun and entertainment for all tastes. After a day full of culture and nature, Jesolo offers the perfect counterpoint between relaxation and fun. San Donà di Piave and the sacred river of the fatherland

Finally, San Donà di Piave invites you to discover the river Piave, known as the "sacred river of the homeland" because of its decisive role in the First World War. Here, history and natural beauty intertwine to create a unique atmosphere. On a walk along the banks of the Piave, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside, watch birds, discover hiking and cycling trails, relax at sunset and experience moments that will stay with you forever.
